Supply Teacher Wages in the UK

What do supply teachers earn in the UK?

There could be a number of reasons why you’re asking this question. Maybe you’re an overseas-trained teacher, looking to fund a visit by working as a supply teacher, or you could be retired and hoping to supplement your pension with a few days of supply. Maybe you’re an NQT looking for experience while you search for your first permanent post. Whatever your reasons for asking, the most accurate answer is also the most frustrating one; “it depends”.

IR35 reform

Julia Kermode, CEO of FCSA, the trade association for umbrella companies and contractor accountants, has warned of damaging effects if reform of IR35 is extended to the private sector.

Work-related training for contractors.

One of the things that attracts many people to contracting is the autonomy. As a contractor you have clients rather than employers, which makes for a different dynamic. You decide when and how you work, to a greater degree than permanent employees do at least.

The UK’s second largest construction company, Carillion, has gone into liquidation, after talks between the firm, it’s creditors and the government failed to reach a deal to save it.

Contractors working for Carillion will be watching with interest today, hoping for indications that they will be paid for work they’ve completed. Whatever the eventual outcome, thousands of contractors are in for a tense time.
