What FCSA Accreditation can do for you

 

These are interesting times for the recruitment industry. In terms of compliance, the landscape is changing at speed as the risks of getting it wrong escalate and recruiters take action to protect themselves. In general, we believe this is a good thing. If we can banish the rogues, chancers and naive from our industry and lift the bar of best practice across the whole supply chain, everyone benefits in the long term.

In the short term, the rapid pace of change has caused widespread anxiety and we’ve seen some of our partners undertaking unnecessary checks. Everyone is acting in good faith and for the right reasons, but time and resources are being wasted, and in this extremely competitive marketplace that’s the last thing anyone wants.

The situation is not helped when suppliers themselves give conflicting advice about what action is required, even in some instances arguing against the benefits of accreditation. It is important that recruiters are able to meet legislative change with an appropriate, measured response, and in order to do that you need to know what accreditation really means.

What the title “FCSA Accredited Member” says about your suppliers.

At least one non-accredited supplier has recently claimed that “kite marks” are only truly valid on the day of the review. This betrays a fundamental misunderstanding about what is being reviewed.

As some of us are fond of saying, compliance isn’t about what you do, it’s about what you are. It lies in your culture and priorities, in your reasons for being in business and the values underpinning your decisions. FCSA Accredited Members haven’t just passed a test; they’ve demonstrated an ongoing commitment to improving standards in our industry and they’ve proved that their integrity is important to them, not just as a sales tool, but in and of itself.

Before awarding accreditation, the FCSA’s appointed, independent regulated assessors look at the culture and processes of the business. These are verified by evidence they select from any point in the last two years. Accreditation is not easy to achieve, and it’s difficult to maintain unless the necessary standards are a natural part of how you do business.

The badge that we get for achieving accreditation is a tool designed to help recruiters to find us, but it isn’t why we’re here. We didn’t join for a “kite mark” or for a competitive advantage. We’re here to make our industry better; that’s why we achieved accreditation when many others failed.

If you only work with FCSA Accredited Members, you can be sure that your suppliers adhere to the most rigorous compliance standards in the industry; Not just that they passed a test and won a badge, but that there is a determination to do things properly at the heart of their business.

Replicating this standard through your own vetting procedures would be extremely difficult, expensive and time consuming. Suggested methods, like asking for sample payslips to check that deductions are correct, will create prohibitive volumes of work, and ultimately won’t tell you what you need to know. Working with Accredited Members therefore improves compliance in your supply chain, while reducing the amount of time and money you spend in vetting suppliers. Everybody wins; apart from suppliers who can’t meet the required standards.
