Work bonuses 'effective way of retaining employees'

Company umbrella contractors may be interested to hear of the techniques that managers believe are the most effective for retaining staff.

An online survey by CBSbutler found that 64 per cent of clients see bonuses and reward-based pay techniques as the best ways to keep a hold of employees and contractors with umbrella companies, Recruiter reported.

This is considerably more than the number of managers who believe that pensions are the key element to keeping the same faces in a workplace, with just 27 per cent choosing this option.

A possible surprising result for contractors found in the survey is that not one respondent cited lifestyle benefits, like gym memberships, as a priority.

David Leyshon, managing director of CBSbutler, commented: "It is very important that managers do not put emphasis on rewarding only hard financial targets at the expense of other qualitative skills such as team work … and customer focus."

Earlier this week, Roger Bibbings, the occupational safety adviser at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, told those with umbrella companies that good lighting and mopping up skills are easy ways to reduce the risks of falls in the workplace.
