Umbrella contractors boosted by IT skills demand
Contractors with an umbrella company are more in demand for their IT skills than 14 months ago, according to new research.
Figures from Reed Recruitment showed that the number of private sector opportunities for IT workers hit its highest level in over a year during February.
The Reed index for the sector moved up to 152 because of this demand, up from 108 at the same point last year, with managing director Martin Warne stating that businesses are in "job creation mode".
The figures were backed up by Recruitment Genius, according to Contractor UK, as it said that there are now "green shoots" visible on the jobs front.
Contractors were also told that the high competition for jobs is ensuring that a cap is being kept on pay, with average wages from nearly 30 job sectors falling by one index point.
Last month, a survey from Brookson showed that the positive vibes in February were resulting in 58 per cent of workers feeling appreciated for the work that they do.
