Umbrella company users 'should use Spending Challenge to attack IR35'

Those umbrella company users who are concerned about the effects of IR35 can register their desire to change the system, an expert has claimed.

Mel Dixon, writing for Freelance Advisor, has highlighted the fact that the coalition government has been accepting suggestions from the public on how to save money and that a number of people have suggested reforming this law.

She said that many of them point to its ineffectiveness in raising tax revenues as a reason for the law to be repealed.

While the Spending Challenge is not receiving additional suggestions, people can still vote on the ideas which have already been made, she explained.

Ms Dixon said: "The deadline is August 31st, so if you're a freelancer or contractor who's passionately opposed to IR35 then now might be a good time to let your feelings known."

Earlier this month, Recruitment and Employment Confederation chief executive Kevin Green called on contractors to assess the government's progress at cutting business regulations on the steps it takes to repeal IR35.ADNFCR-2808-ID-800043726-ADNFCR
