Umbrella company users in construction 'face unpredictable situation'
Posted by Sarah Putt
Umbrella company users working in the construction industry face an unpredictable situation, an expert has warned.
Alex Hawkes, associate editor at Construction News, has highlighted the fact that it is becoming increasingly difficult to predict how the sector will perform in the mid-term.
He explained: "I think it is too early to say whether or not we are going to get continued growth or fall into a double dip."
Offices and retail markets will be the factors with the strongest influence on how the industry will perform and it is when these return to the construction sector that its fate will begin to improve.
Mr Hawkes said: "Whatever happens in the UK economy, we will see it feed through into construction."
A recent Markit and Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supplying survey found that employment in the industry failed to increase in July, despite staffing levels rising in the two months prior to this.
