Umbrella company users 'face favourable IT market'
Category: Contractor Industry News
Posted by John CrawleyUmbrella company users who have been trained in IT are likely to face a favourable jobs market in the next few years, an expert has claimed.
Gerry McLaughlin, from ITContractor.com, highlighted the fact that the industry performed better than many during the downturn, with a lower rate of unemployment when compared with the economy at large.
He emphasised the fact that the low level of students taking courses in this area will also create a skills shortage in the second, which could be good news for IT contractors with umbrella companies.
"The number of people taking IT degrees has been falling ... so there is not a great bank of IT-literate people waiting to come into the profession over the next few years," he stated.
Mr McLaughlin said that the industry is likely to be a lucrative and safe profession for those trained in this area.
A recent e-skills UK survey found that demand for ICT staff rose five per cent in the first quarter of 2010 – seven per cent above overall demand for labour/skills in the UK.
