Umbrella company users 'could be impacted by new IT maintenance code'
Category: Contractor Industry News
IT contractors with umbrella companies could benefit from a new code of conduct which has been launched for IT maintenance.Gartner is behind the guidelines, which aim to change the way that the IT industry operates and to improve the quality of maintenance that smaller businesses receive.
Among the rights mentioned in the guidelines include the reception of updates for software products, the right to clearly defined response times and to receive reasonable, predictable percentage ranges for increases in fees.
David Cappuccio, vice president and chief of research at Gartner, emphasised the fact that hardware and software maintenance is a huge expense for businesses.
He said: "Enterprises need timely, reliable, cost-effective IT maintenance, but they just aren't getting it."
Earlier this month, Contractor UK reported that workers in the IT sector have not experienced much change in their hourly rates but that this is a good thing, as the economic climate could have had a much worse impact.
