Umbrella company users: Demand for workers with valuable skills 'up'

There is a high level of demand among UK companies for British contractors with skills they need, a new report has claimed, which could concern umbrella company users.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and KPMG's Labour market Outlook have shown that 45 per cent of employers have advertised vacancies that have been hard to fill, with 21 per cent bringing in workers from outside the country.

Malcolm Edge, UK head of markets at KPMG, claimed that many companies in the UK are experiencing optimism about their prospects.

He said that one of the main problems that he faced was that businesses are struggling to find the right people with the needed skills.

"Increasingly, they are looking overseas to address this skills gap recruiting people to the UK or deciding to offshore both work and jobs," he explained.

Those tempted to use their skills by entering the contractor market should take Brookson managing director Martin Hesketh's advice and register as self-employed with HM Revenue and Customs first.ADNFCR-2808-ID-800035574-ADNFCR
