Umbrella company contractors 'will face harsh 2011'

Those with umbrella companies who are currently finding work in the construction industry should be braced for a tough year ahead.

Greg Pitcher, deputy news editor at Construction News, has given the prediction after the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors found that they had been no movement felt in construction workloads by chartered surveyors in the third quarter of 2010.

The outlook has not come as much of a surprise to Mr Pitcher though, who believed that this part of the business world had particularly found it hard in the last few years.

Furthermore, he believed that the public sector cuts announced in the Comprehensive Spending Review had put a dampener on the construction industry, which will likely hit umbrella company contractors in this sector yet again.

He explained: "The industry is going to lose a massive amount of work because of the Comprehensive Spending Review and it is basically reliant on a pick-up in the private sector that doesn't really appear to be materialising yet."
