Umbrella company contractors told 'money woes can make relationships stronger'

The effects of financial difficulties on a family relationship have been described to company umbrella contractors as "a bit like going through a war", according to one expert.

However, this does not need to mean a negative thing particularly, Kim Stephenson, financial psychologist and creator of Taming the Pound, pointed out.

He explained: "Good relationships can often get stronger under pressure; you fight together, look after one another and come out the other side with an even better relationship."

However, Mr Stephenson went on to say that there is no "one size fits all" way for families dealing with financial woes, though he believes that honesty could go a long way.

The advice follows a study conducted by the Debt Advice Foundation recently, which found that one in ten people who has contacted its helpline cites a failed relationship as a main cause of their money problems – one of the biggest causes given.
