Umbrella company contractors told 'learn private sector language'

Company umbrella contractors currently in the process of moving over from work in the public sector to the private sector have been given tips on how best to make the transition.

One of the important factors to consider, according to Mark Staniland, managing director of career transition services at Hays, is to be "able to speak private sector language".

This can be achieved by those with umbrella companies currently looking for job opportunities in this part of the industry by focusing more on outcomes, instead of on process.

By doing this, Mr Staniland believes that people will "more likely to succeed during interview stages".

He added: "The private sector does not encourage cutting corners but it does measure success on the end product."

The comments follow on from the fact that February's Reed Job Index hit a new record of 131, as job demand peaked at previously unseen heights over the period.
