Umbrella company contractors 'should look for stress'

A financial hit could be felt by businesses which do not deal with workplaces filled with people suffering from stress, those with umbrella companies have been warned.

The Stress Management Society recently found that one in five people who are currently in work have been affected by stress during their occupation.

Neil Shah, director of the organisation, believed that those who attempt to reduce the condition are not just doing it to increase the happiness and healthiness of a workplace.

He explained: "They do it because they understand [that] the bottom [line is that] there is a financial cost to not dealing with stress."

Umbrella contractors were also advised as to ways they can check for signs of stress in the people they are working alongside.

These include seeing if an increase in the number of sick days being taken has occurred, whether they are getting into more conflicts when in a job, or if their sense of humour has been replaced by irritability.
