UK 'must do more to encourage entrepreneurs'

Category: Contractor Industry News

Government cuts should not be at the expense of small firms but used to encourage entrepreneurs, it has been suggested.

Boosting innovation would aid the country, said Michael Baxter, editor of Investment and Business News.

He pointed out that the attitude towards entrepreneurs in the US is much more positive and open and called on the UK government to foster such feelings here.

"If you can do something to encourage entrepreneurs then that will go a long way to start changing that; I think that's what the UK needs," Mr Baxter commented.

He also highlighted the policy in Japan to lend to businesses as part of quantitative easing policies, saying this is something that could work for the UK as well.

Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society, has also spoken of the need to encourage entrepreneurs, saying they should be helped to hire new staff.
