Posted by Sarah Putt

Joshua Bamfield, director of the Centre for Retail Research, believes that the "twofold" of pressures consist of economic circumstances and the combined growth in popularity of online retailing and discount operators.
For the former problem, Mr Bamfield pointed out that major retailers have been spending money by investing and opening more stores around the country.
Additionally, these types of companies are also attempting to retain business to the best of their ability.
He also explained the effect of online and discount retailers, saying: "This is creating additional pressure at a time when there isn't any retail growth. People have got to fight for every pound that they get on the high street."
The British Retail Consortium has recently called on a retail-friendly Budget by the government next month, with costs proving a major pitfall for many high street businesses at the moment.
