Those with umbrella companies 'may feel benefits of cloud computing'

Although cloud computing is still in its infancy, one source has predicted that IT contractors with umbrella companies will feel many benefits the more widespread this technology becomes.

Michael Dean, head of marketing at the National Computing Centre (NCC), believes that there are only a small percentage of companies using cloud computing to the degree which makes it worthwhile.

He believes that one reason for this is that there are still a number of security issues and risks surrounding this concept, meaning many businesses will choose not to invest in this scheme until these question marks disappear and feel more comfortable with cloud computing.

However, Mr Dean points out that as more umbrella company contractors become more confident, the services will begin to mature, as well as "become more widely available, more reliable and with greater levels of continuity".

These comments follow on from a survey carried out by the London School of Economics, which found that there are considerably fewer IT executives buying cloud computing than business ones.
