TUC: Gender pay gap needs to be addressed

Category: Contractor Industry News

Women using umbrella companies should be able to earn the same amount of money as their male counterparts, according to one organisation which said that the gender pay gap still exists, and steps need to be taken to eradicate it.

A Trades Union Congress spokesperson said that although there have been forward steps made over the last 20 years, more needs to be done to address the prevalent issue.

"Around three in ten women earn more than their partners ... girls have been outperforming boys in education for over a decade, but this advantage has failed to fully translate into the workplace," she stated.

The expert added that because of the recession many women have become the main breadwinner in a house and she believes this could see a new section of British males turn into stay-at-home fathers.

According to the Women and Work Survey 2010, commissioned by Grazia Magazine, nearly half of the 2,000 women questioned earn either more or as much as their partners.ADNFCR-2808-ID-19901410-ADNFCR
