TIGA opens its membership up to IT contractors
Category: Contractor Industry News
Posted by Sarah PuttIT contractors with an umbrella company may be able to benefit from a trade association's announcement that it will allow workers in the games industry to join its organisation.
TIGA, which represents the UK videogame industry, has said that students, freelancers, service suppliers and development staff will be able to participate in an individual membership scheme.
By joining this, IT contractors will be given access to a number of helpful resources, which includes being given career advice and seminars, as well as receiving discounts and newsletters.
The move is a change from the organisation's previous stance, in which it was exclusive to institutional and corporate members, and will allow contractors to join an organisation that currently has over 160 members from all parts of the games industry.
Phil Elliott, publisher and managing editor of GamesIndustry.biz, said that it will take a little time to see just how much this sift will benefit IT contractors.
He claimed: "Anything that can help people find support, recruitment, the right training, the right knowledge and therefore if that is something that TIGA can provide with the scheme then hopefully people will see some benefit from it."
