The majority of IT directors are concerned about staff retention in their businesses during 2011, new research has indicated to company umbrella contractors.

ReThink Recruitment, the technology staffing specialist, found that 85 per cent of directors in this work sector are either very concerned or concerned about keeping hold of workers.

"There isn't a vast pool of unemployed talent for IT directors to go fishing in, as skills need to be very specific and regularly updated," commented Michael Bennett, director of ReThink Recruitment.

Other results indicated in the research included 41 per cent of IT directors increasing their headcounts in 2010, with 80 either hoping to add further to their staff tallies or keep the number the same during the year ahead.

Recently, those with umbrella companies were told how a venture as an IT contractor is no longer seen as "highly cyclical", but instead as "the safer profession" than other areas of work in that industry, according to Gerry McLaughlin, of ITContractor.com.
