Staff communication and engagement 'key to surviving recession'
Category: PAYE Umbrella Company News
Umbrella companies and other employers have revealed that good communication and engagement with staff are the key to safeguarding jobs in a recession.According to a report by the CBI and recruitment group Harvey Nash, nine out of ten employers communicated the impact of the recession on their business to staff, with 87 per cent saying this meant employees understood the need to change working practices.
The survey also revealed that employers have been able to phase out some of the more drastic measures, such as recruitment freezes, and start hiring again.
Overall, firms have been able to keep more people in jobs than had been expected, said John Cridland, CBI deputy director-general.
"Good communication played a key role in helping employees understand the changes needed to safeguard jobs," he commented.
Flexible working is also set to be important during the World Cup, with legal firm DLA Piper highlighting that many UK employers will allow staff to alter their working hours so they can watch the games.
