Skim reading contracts is a problem for Brits
Category: Employment Law, Taxation and Legislation for Contractors
More than five million British workers only have a quick read of the details of their employment contracts, according to new research by consumer watchdog Which?.The survey found that 26 per cent of workers only skim read their employment contracts before signing them, which the watchdog says leaves them at risk of unfair treatment by their employer.
Which? chief executive Peter Vicary-Smith stated that the research highlights the slackness of some Brits when it comes to checking facts which could drastically affect their lives.
"Our research shows that many people fail to take the time to read their employment contracts properly, which means they have no idea what they've signed up to and could be in for a shock in the future," he said.
Mark Seymour, director of Hays Insurance and Financial Services, recently said that after the banking downturn, demand for actuaries and compliance managers is higher, which could interest contractors looking for work in the financial services sector.
