Recruiters taking on professional contractors must be more adaptable, it has been advised. The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has pointed out that the changing economic landscape and expected cuts in the public sector highlight the need for flexibility.
Its Academy for Business section pointed out the growing requests from recruiters for business support and advice on diversifying as evidence of this.
"Whist there are still real opportunities for specialised niche providers there is also growing awareness of the need to spread risk across different markets," commented Sam Strange, director of the REC's Academy for Business support unit.
Many agencies are now moving away from the public sector and are more aware of the need to pre-empt developments and seize new opportunities in uncertain and fast-changing times, he added.
The REC is spearheading a public sector resourcing campaign to highlight the need for employers to work together more effectively.
