REC: IR35 reform 'welcome'

Category: Employment Law, Taxation and Legislation for Contractors

IR35 reform is on the cards, as the coalition government has announced that it will be reviewing this arrangement.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has welcomed the decision to conduct a wholesale review of small business taxation and highlighted the fact it intends to introduce rules which are simpler.

It stated that this replacement legislation is likely to prevent tax avoidance without putting an additional burden on the self-employed.

Tom Hadley, director of external relations at the REC, has claimed that the emphasis on red-tape reduction will benefit many firms.

He explained: "The coalition programme provides a broad outline of what lies ahead, the next few months will be about joining up the dots."

Earlier this month, Rob Scott, managing director of Aaron Wallis Sales Recruitment, claimed that new opportunities for engineering contractors could be created in the near future.

He said that efforts to encourage Britain to specialise in niche areas of the field will result in the country becoming a world-leader in engineering once more.
