Qualifications 'not as important to contractors'
Posted by John Crawley
Many of those with an umbrella company do not see their qualifications as the main area to secure work.
This belief comes from a report recently released by Hiscox, which found that only one per cent of those looking to start their own business see grades as an essential part of their success.
An ability to think creatively and network were two of the main factors that contractors noted in their list of skills and expertise, with 40 and 38 per cent respectively.
The author reporting on the findings noted that Richard Branson started his entrepreneurship career despite the fact that "when he left school he had not even passed any "O" levels."
Now, his Virgin empire has about 200 companies operating in over 30 countries for a wealth of industries, including television, travel and finance, which could encourage those thinking of becoming a contractor and joining an umbrella company.
