Public sector finance functions 'must raise their game'
Category: Contractor Industry News
Finance functions in the public sector must up their game ahead of spending cuts, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has said. Its report, entitled A place at the top table? Raising Finance's game in the Public Sector, revealed that there is still work to be done to ensure finance functions become fully integrated business partners.
This could affect public sector contractors, with a greater focus needed on insight and guidance from finance experts, PwC said.
"Finance functions across the public sector need to respond by really engaging the business as a partner and providing high level insight, to inform the key decisions that impact paying for public service delivery," commented John Berriman, partner and head of the government and public sector finance practice at PwC.
The firm has called for strong leadership within finance functions and the development of the future workers in the sector.
Public sector contractors have also been warned that they face cuts in employment opportunities and pay, yet the spending reduction will not aid growth, according to the Institute of Employment Rights.
