Plants 'can boost health for freelance contractors'

Category: Health and Safety for Contractors

Wherever they are working from, freelance contractors should have plenty of greenery around them to boost concentration and wellbeing, according to one scientist.

Plants have a "profound psychological effect" on people, said Professor Margaret Burchett from the University of Technology in Sydney.

Not only do indoor plants improve air quality, they can boost mental health and ease anxiety and fatigue, she told AFR.

Furthermore, their use of carbon dioxide is good for the environment.

"As more and more of your population is living in urban areas, then the quality of the air becomes important," Professor Burchett commented.

The Plants for People group has pointed out that as many plants as possible should be placed within the working environment.

Studies are continuing on which species are best for health, so freelance contractors simply need to consider aesthetics and plant care when choosing their office greenery.
