Over half of women seek financial independence

Category:

Female company umbrella contractors could be gaining more financial independence, if new research is anything to go by.

A study from Halifax Savings is the basis of the claim, after it found that 89 per cent of women believe it is important for them to put away money or have their own savings.

When asked why they consider having a sole saving method, 52 per cent revealed that they would like to maintain financial independence, while a safety net in case of relationship breakdown is the way 18 per cent see it.

Female contractors with umbrella companies in London are seen as having the strongest desire to save money independently, with 54 per cent deciding on financial decisions in their household.

Flavia Palacios, head of Halifax Savings, acknowledged: "Getting into the savings habit and maintaining control over your saving and spending habits is good advice for anyone, but has become increasingly so in the current economic climate."

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman at Aviva has told families to take a step back from their finances, in order to determine where their cash is going.
