ODA underlines exceptional Olympic contractor health and safety
Category: Health and Safety for Contractors
Professional contractors working on Olympic projects have achieved a better than industry average health and safety record, according to new figures.A total of eight million hours have been worked without a reportable accident occurring as of yet, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has revealed, which underlines the project's commitment to safety.
The Olympic Park site has its own dedicated medical centre, offering health checks to every worker, in addition to education and health promotion campaigns being run for the benefit of workers across the site.
Commenting on the excellent safety record at the site, ODA chairman John Armitt underlined the commitment of every professional contractor in operation there thus far.
He said: "The number of workers and activity on site will reach its peak with construction underway in every part of the Olympic Park.
"The logistical challenge is huge with the workforce increasing to around 11,000, and deliveries increasing from the current rate of around 650 per day to around a 1,000 per day."
The announcement comes as contractors put the finishing touches to a new link to the Olympic Park. The new A12 underpass was completed in just 28 days and involved 50 workers.
