Now is the 'ideal time' for financial scams

The recent spending cuts and tax rises have made this time an ideal period for money scams, those with an umbrella company have been told.

Justin Modray, from CandidMoney.com, said that the financially vulnerable are being preyed on, as they usually fall victim to fraudsters through a combination of naivety, desperation and/or greed.

He went on to say that monetary scams need to be at the forefront of everybody's minds at the moment.

"The simplest way to avoid being scammed is to only deal with companies that you recognise as being well established and genuine. And if you deal with them via the telephone or internet make sure you're speaking to, or browsing, with the company themselves and not an imposter pretending to be them," he stated.

Mr Modray went on to state that if something looks too good to be true then it "almost certainly is".

His words came as the Office of Fair Trading launched its 2011 Scams Awareness Month.ADNFCR-2808-ID-800383896-ADNFCR
