Non-paper CVs 'not always advised' for umbrella company contractors
Posted by John Crawley
Company umbrella contractors have been warned that those who submit CVs to clients via CD, video or website could be hitting a wall straight away.
Peter Panayotou, senior consultant at The Write Stuff, admitted that this strategy does work with some, as it is something that is different and could attract attention.
However, he also advised those with umbrella companies that this type of CV can be a "double-edged sword", as it could work against them.
Mr Panayotou acknowledged that this strategy is "awkward", as digital resumes can be harder to process than hard-copy CVs, as well as possibly leaving the client with more work to do in order to establish a contractor's strengths and skills.
He commented: "The problem is that it's high risk, and you can't always anticipate the response."
The expert's view came after 23-year-old business management graduate Kyle Clarke secured a position with Knowledge Labs after promoting his skills through his own website.
