Networking is key to employment, freelance contractors told

Category: Contractor Industry News

Professional contractors looking for work should be aware that most jobs are secured through networking.

They should take control of their career planning, advised Tor MacLeod, co-founder of careerplan4.me, and keep every avenue open.

Global economic difficulties and prevalence of the internet have created a shift in the job market, he explained.

"The change means that anyone currently searching for a job can feel daunted. Career planning and networking are joint kings."

He urged freelance contractors to avoid applying for any job they see, instead being selective and matching their skills to employers' needs.

Networking is key, Mr MacLeod continued, so talk to everyone you meet, face-to-face or through the internet.

Professional contractors are set to see increasing employment opportunities, according to research from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG, as employers realise the value of flexible workers.
