Mixed-age teams are best for contractors
Contractors of all different ages should work together if employers want to create a strong team, according to an expert, who believes that mixed teams are the best.
Rachel Krys, campaign director for the Employers Forum on Age, said that some companies fail to see the advantage of having a number of contractors of different stages in life working together.
"What they're really missing is that a mixed-age team - having people of all different ages - makes a much stronger and much more adaptable team. When you put lots of people who are the same together, it is actually really bad," she stated.
The employment expert added that although there has been a lot of anti-age discrimination legislation to help combat the problem, at the moment some contractors are missing out because of their age.
Recently, the Department of Communities and Local Government stated that discrimination was the most common form of labour market discrimination experienced in 2009-10.
