Language skills could be a key way for an umbrella company user to set themselves out from the crowd, an expert has claimed.

Teresa Tinsley, director of communications at the Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research (CILT), said that the value of these depend on which language is learned.

She stated that French, German and the European languages are in particularly high demand at the moment, but that almost any can benefit contractors looking for new work.

"We need to look at the future, not just at what jobs are being advertised now," she explained.

Ms Tinsley suggested that Brazilian, Indian, Russian and the Arabic-speaking countries are all key markets it is important to be mindful of.

The CILT recently reported that in a poll of desirable traits for those applying for work in British firms, languages came second only to IT skills.

A total of 43 per cent of recruiters identified languages as giving a candidate an important advantage in the application process.ADNFCR-2808-ID-19919442-ADNFCR
