Job market positivity is great news for contractors

Category: Contractor Industry News

Contractors using umbrella companies have been given a boost by the current wave of positivity in the jobs market, according to an expert, who predicted this could be a temporary lift after the austerity laid out in the Budget.

Kevin Green, chief executive of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) said that there have been positive signs in the market, however he is not sure whether this can be sustained in the coming months and years.

"This is an encouraging sign that the jobs market is stable and, in some sectors such as construction and engineering, rapidly growing," he stated.

Bernard Brown, partner and head of business services at KPMG added that the proposed public sector cuts have not yet had an impact on the UK jobs market, but he thinks this will come in the near future.

The REC's Youth Employment Taskforce recently called for the government to support youngsters get into employment to stop them becoming a "lost generation".ADNFCR-2808-ID-19880802-ADNFCR
