IT employment levels increased in Q3 2009

It contractors saw improving job prospects in the third quarter of 2009, with the number of professionals working in the sector increasing by 10,000 to 1.061 million, new figures have revealed.The latest report from e-skills, the Sector Skills Council for Business and Information Technology, showed that green shoots were starting to appear with unemployment below the UK average.
Advertised vacancies for staff rose by five per cent, following six consecutive quarterly falls, with demand for IT contractors particularly strong, rising by 26 per cent on the second quarter of 2009.
IT contractors with skills in Bluetooth, Tibco and RDBMS were in particular demand, although Exchange, Prince, Windows 2000, Coldfusion and VPN needs were lower again for the seventh quarter in a row.
The strength of the IT contractor sector has also been highlighted by Alex Farrell, managing director at the itjobboard.co.uk, who pointed out that the sector is growing thanks to the economic climate putting the focus on IT systems.
