IT contractors demand 'drops to lowest rate of the year'
Posted by Daniel Frost
The number of IT contractors fell to its lowest rate of the year in September, according to one source.
A recent report by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation was the basis of the claims, in which the index demand in this sector fell to 51.7 points, which is considerably down from the second lowest index of 56.4 points, which was recorded in May.
Contractor UK has also reported that those with an umbrella company who have skills in IT experienced less demand than the figure of the same month last year.
Bernard Brown, who is head of business services at the firm KPMG, believed that the results indicate the jobs market in the UK is suffering from a slowdown, though some areas are showing stronger signs.
He explained: "Engineering, construction and executive staff have been most in demand, an indication of the continuing recovery in the private and manufacturing sector."
The news is sure to come as a blow to IT Contractors, who have received a wealth of good news over the last few weeks, including seeing their pay rates rise by ten per cent over the past two years, according to recent figures from ITJobsWatch.co.uk.
