IT contractors 'could find roles administering firms' security programmes'

Category: Contractor Industry News

It is important for companies to continue investing in IT contractors to run security initiatives, an expert has suggested.

Neil Munroe, external affairs director for Equifax, has claimed that many organisations are taking the short-term view and cutting spending on this type of staff member, putting their businesses at risk.

During the recession, the number of fraud-related incidents increased and it has become increasingly important for the company to monitor itself to counteract this, he explained.

While he acknowledged that there has been a growing number of security packages released that reduce the headcount needed to run this function, Mr Munroe stated that it is important to continue using staff knowledgeable about this area.

"At the end of the day, however good your electronic system is you still need some expertise around to interpret that," he concluded.

Recent figures published by intelligence and investigation management software solutions specialist ABM show that 16 per cent of companies increased their security budgets over the last two years.
