IT contractors 'assured over latest figures in the industry'

IT contractors have been advised that the industry they are working in is "way off having a skills shortage".

This is according to David Fleming, associate director at Badenoch & Clark, who was responding to concerns raised after contractor vacancies in ICT companies rose by 11 per cent in the third quarter of 2010, as well as the ratio between demand and supply of labour in these jobs falling to just 1.2 potential applicants per position, in a report by e-skills UK.

Mr Fleming assured those with umbrella companies worried about these figures that the results come after an increase in demand for IT within trades last year, with each company involved in this now having to return the balance.

An IT contractor who has the skills necessary for a job is likely to "become quite a desirable individual", Mr Fleming also believes.

He added: "I don't think it's actually any different from any of the other core markets that we supply to at this moment in time."
