How umbrella companies 'can aid contractors'

There are a number of things that IT contractors would like from their umbrella companies, according to one source.

One of the most crucial things which they look for is payment on time, with Gerry McLaughlin telling IT Contractor that agents who fail to follow this is making contractors have to endure more time focusing on their money issues rather than work.

Company umbrella contractors would also like to know the commission percentage which they will be charged, and they "would feel much safer and feel much better about an agency", Mr McLaughlin pointed out.

Other pointers which umbrella companies should look to implement include being paid by the week, searching for new contracts when someone needs it, and possibly taking them out for a drink or lunch every so often.

Recently, it was suggested by Rachel Krys, campaign director for the Employers Forum on Age, that contractors may work in up to three career routes during their lifetime, which highlights the need for umbrella companies to keep seeking for new opportunities.
