Graduate contractors: Flexibility 'key to getting work'

Category: Contractor Industry News

Graduates who are looking to enter the contracting profession should ensure they are flexible when looking for work, an expert has claimed.

Charlie Ball, deputy research director at the Higher Education Careers Services Unit, has claimed that the jobs market is currently difficult but that the vast majority of graduates manage to find work.

He emphasised the importance of employers considering the candidates in front of them and not discarding those with a 2.2 out of hand.

"They are always going to look for the best person for the job, which can mean people with the right skills and the right attitude and attributes to succeed in their business," he explained, which could be good news for contractors who have recently departed university.

Mr Ball's comments follow figures published by the Association of Graduate Recruiters that revealed that employers believe the number of vacancies for those leaving university has fallen by 6.9 per cent.
