"Good news" for freelance contractors in construction sector
Category: Contractor Industry News
Positive workloads in the construction industry could signal "good news" for professional contractors in the sector, it has been suggested.Figures from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) have revealed that the first quarter of 2010 saw positive movement for the first time in two years.
"What this could be an indicator of is that some area within the whole industry is starting to see growth again, which is obviously good news, but it definitely wouldn't seem right to say that the entire industry is now recovering," commented Nick Whitten, business editor of Construction News.
He pointed out that certain areas are "definitely recovering", including house building and infrastructure.
The commercial sector is not showing the same strength, Mr Whitten continued, but has seen some movement, particularly in the capital.
According to the Rics survey, the previous seven quarters have shown a decline in construction workloads, causing difficulties for freelance contractors in the industry.
