GDP leap buoyed by construction sector

Category: Contractor Industry News

After a shock leap in the UK's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), many commentators were left shocked and accredited the construction sector as being a driving force behind the surprising statistics, according to one newspaper.

The Guardian spoke to experts, such as James Knightley, UK economist at ING, and Jonathan Loynes, chief European economist for Capital Economics, who suggested the 6.6 per cent surge in the construction sector helped the recovery.

Benjamin Williamson, senior economist at the Centre of Economics and Business Research, added: "It is not a coincidence that business services and finance and construction should be the largest contributors to growth this quarter, as the output of these sectors is by far the most difficult to measure."

Contractors using umbrella companies working in the construction industry should be buoyed by the figures, which showed that the service sector also helped with the renaissance, as it also produced more revenue.ADNFCR-2808-ID-19905366-ADNFCR
