Freelance contractor recruiters 'should look for transferrable skills'
Category: Recruitment Agency News
Those taking on professional contractors and other staff should widen their net, it has been suggested.Recruiters are urged to consider candidates with transferable skills gained from working in different sectors, said Darra Singh, chief executive of Jobcentre Plus.
The labour market is becoming increasingly flexible and smart employers will make the most of that trend, he commented.
"Gone are the days when people believe they have one job for life," Mr Singh explained.
"Most of us will end up wanting or needing to switch careers at some point in our lives."
He urged those looking for work to take advantage of the training courses and qualifications on offer to ensure they are well-placed to find a job.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics have revealed the number of unemployed people for the final quarter of 2009 was down by 3,000 to 2.46 million.
