Flexible working is common sense, umbrella companies told

Category: PAYE Umbrella Company News

Umbrella companies and other employees have been reminded that flexible working can boost their business.

Flexibility can help the business run smoothly, explained Stephen Alambritis, spokesperson for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

"In small firms, part-time work and flexible working is commonsense," he commented.

"It fits the needs and demands of staff and employers, and staff are more productive if they are able to have a say in their hours of work."

Mr Alambritis suggested that a one-size-fits-all approach will not work and advised bosses to consider their options when offering flexible working schemes.

Crucially, whatever is implemented must be open to all staff and work in the best interests of the business, the business expert added.

Flexible working is the most valued benefit for employees, according to figures from PricewaterhouseCoopers, ahead of perks such as performance-related bonuses.

Four in ten said this allows a better work-life balance.
