Flexibility will help contractors find work

Category: Recruitment Agency News

People on the lookout for the perfect contractor role may need to be flexible in order to get it, according to an expert, who said that having impressive qualifications is not a guarantee of success.

Charlie Ball, deputy research director at Higher Education Careers Services Unit, said that contractors using umbrella companies need to be flexible and forward thinking when approaching recruitment.

"Graduates should look to be flexible, particularly in an economy such as the one we are seeing at the moment. So that can mean looking at a range of different options," he said.

Mr Ball added that companies are often trying to recruit people who have skills to suit a very specific role and will not always be in awe of someone with an impressive degree mark.

Flexibility and perseverance will be needed in the current job market, according to the Association of Graduate Recruiters, which revealed that the average now stands at 69 for every vacancy, compared to 49 last year.
