Firms urged to consult with staff on improvements

Category: Contractor Industry News

Firms, including umbrella companies, must involve their staff in discussions on how to improve business operating systems, it has been advised.

Employees should be able to offer suggestions on how things could be done faster and processes streamlined, suggested Angela Baron, an adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

"In terms of employers looking to employees to find out how they can make work more efficient and cost-effective, it really isn't anything new," she commented.

Ms Baron said this could be done through an online forum as this could help spark discussion between colleagues and bosses.

"It's worth having a variety of ways in which people can put their views forward through group discussion, or through writing it on a piece of paper and putting it in a box," she added.

Businesses have also been advised to take action over non-genuine absence, with the Institute for Employment Studies encouraging the use of return-to-work interviews and the collection of data on days missed.
