Firms 'reluctant' to up recruitment
Category: Recruitment Agency News
Businesses remain cautious about taking on new members of staff as the economy recovers, one industry expert has said. Those that are hiring are doing so reluctantly, according to Andrew Hawes, director and co-founder of consultancy Newton.
He explained that many companies have taken difficult, but necessary steps in terms of freezing pay, and recruitment and are now in better shape.
However, this means there is some reluctance to boost spending again, Mr Hawes pointed out.
"I think a lot of these businesses are going to get themselves into a shape where they can start recruiting, but it is not yet at a point where that has become the focus," he commented.
The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey has reported that UK employers have subdued hiring intentions for the third quarter of 2010, with 87 per cent expecting no change in their head count and five per cent forecasting a decrease.
