Female company umbrella contractors 'need to work on their careers'

Female contractors with umbrella companies have been given some advice on how they can become more favoured over male workers.

Piya Khanna, executive coach at Change to Succeed, noted that men are commonly the decision makers at a senior level, and therefore more likely to be hired.

She also pointed out that the golf game is a common practice which allows male company umbrella contractors to take a step further than women, as it allows meetings to be set up, decisions to be taken and introductions to be made more relaxed.

Ms Khanna explained: "Women need to take more responsibility for their careers and build their networks, profile and personal brand in order to ensure they are visible in the minds of senior decision makers."

The tips came after a study recently conducted by Cranfield School of Management found that out of 1,076 people on the FTSE 100, only 12.5 per cent are female directors.
