Employment tool 'could help reassure contractors'

Contractors with an umbrella company who are concerned about IR35 legislation may find some aid in an online tool that has being produced.

The Employment Status Tool is free to use and allows contractors to see their current employment status, as well as reassuring them on concerns they may have about issues linking to their method of work, ContractorCalculator has reported.

The tool has been designed by Dave Chaplin, CEO of ContractorCalculator, who has plenty of experience in the contracting industry, as he used to be an IT contractor himself.

Covering both current IR35 legislation and its successor, Mr Chaplin believes that the simple-to-use application will be met with joy with many contractors in the UK.

He said: "Contractors are given a very clear answer, based on the latest case law, and the result of the test will, for the first time, help them to make confident decisions about their contracts and tax affairs."

The release of the tool comes soon after Freelance Adviser suggested that the IR35 legislation should be replaced, part of the government's recent Spending Challenge initiative, Parasol has reported.
