Employers seeking increasing IT skills, freelance contractors told
Category: Contractor Industry News
Professional contractors looking for work should ensure their IT skills are up-to-date as employers want only the highest qualified staff, it has been said.Almost all new recruits, whatever their field, are required to have some IT skills, said Karen Price, chief executive officer of e-skills UK, the sector skills council for business and information technology.
"We also know that 77 per cent of the UK's workforce use IT in their everyday jobs, and the level of skill required is increasing all the time," she commented.
Most people have developed IT skills through self study or with the help of friends and family, Ms Price continued, but gaining formal qualifications is recommended.
She suggested that a recognised award can create job opportunities.
Figures from the UK Online Measurement Company have revealed that the typical internet user in Britain spends 22 hours and 15 minutes online each month.
This is up by nearly two-thirds (65 per cent) on 2007.
